‘Impression’
Tulle and Cotton; 2019, 2024

How do our perceptions evolve over time? As time goes on, do they build upon earlier impressions or transform into something totally different? In 2019, I was part of the Tokyo-based collective Keio Fashion Creator. For the final show, I designed and constructed a dress made of layered tulle and cotton. Throughout the process, I stayed with the idea that impressions change over time and interact with facets in everyday life, such as memories, mood, and the surrounding environment. The way layered tulle and its volume move or give color to different matters, depending on the light and shadow, dialogued with such interpretations. In 2024, I reflected on this creation and documented it with Valeria Aristizabal. I wore the dress, lying down on the grass or running around in a forest. I was conscious of the vulnerability of the materials and my existence to the surrounding ecosystem, thinking about the movements of micro-level beings in the soil and on plants.
